Ruth Burton is a traditional folk artist who finds inspiration in the natural world. An inventive ceramicist and self-taught illustrator, Ruth playfully describes plants, animals, architecture, and landscapes with delicate pencil lines and pops of bright color. Ruth’s endless curiosity has led her to use traditional materials in experimental ways, as demonstrated in her pop-up illustrations. Ruth is a 2012-13 graduate of the Teaching Artist Program and was artist in residence at Mercy and Clark Montessori schools during the 2015-16 school year. Ruth has had several commissions of her art and has collaborated with artists at V+V and artists from the community. Ruth co-curated the large-scale group show Bird State in April 2013.
