CATHRINE WHITED

Catherine Whited’s subjects range from household objects to food and fictional characters. Her work is a way of processing, understanding, and collecting pieces of our culture commonly overlooked, mirroring our lives and the objects with which we are surrounded.

Each of Cathrine’s renderings typically depicts one character or unit and is labeled akin to a scientific journal. When one drawing is complete, it is checked off her list. Cataloging something like a slice of cheese, for instance, can be humorous at first but viewing Cathrine’s collections together tells a different story; expanding that humor into something greater.

“We first saw Cathrine Whited’s work in Visionaries + Voices’s group show at Western Exhibitions. It was her drawing of a perfect piece of buttered toast that first caught our eye and from then on, Summertime has become huge fans of Whited’s work. We were so thrilled to feature her in our postcard project, Sincerely Summertime which included an original work and a message of Whited’s on the back.”
