James Egan is “passionate about how art moves and flows left and right— it doesn’t stay in the middle.” This shift he discusses may be most obvious in his extensive collection of fast cars and dancing pop stars. Many of his paintings’ backgrounds provide a more abstract sense of movement, as one can imagine, in works titled “Tina Turner under Northern Lights with Palm Tree” or “Subaru on Fire Planet.” Many of his sketches of cars are left as line drawings. As a collection, a contemporary pattern emerges, oftentimes overlapping each other in a freestyle layering process. His interest in vehicles is passed on from his NASCAR enthused family, specifically his mother. His reactions to witnessing her frustrations and satisfactions from fixing cars by herself show through in many of his drawings.
