KATHY BRANNIGAN

Kathy Brannigan’s psychedelic stream-of-consciousness drawings crash Shel Silverstein playfulness with the mechanical detail of an airplane engineer. Drawings twist rockets, planes, flora and fauna into morass with a cubist-meets blind-contour style. The results are tightly rendered and detailed pencil and ink drawings that blend mechanical and organic hybridized figures to create flying machines and escape pods. She takes painstaking care to title her works with unique poetic verse. These titles set up an open-ended narrative in the work, leading the viewers’ eye to untangle the variegated arrangement, searching for the nearest exit.
