Kevin White: UNTOUCHED
May 28 - June 27, 2010
PAC Gallery is pleased to announce UNTOUCHED, a solo exhibition by Visionary and Voices artist, Kevin White. In his work, Kevin communicates through a Morse code of text, dots, and lines. His collections of books, dead reptiles, pictures of animals, and art materials like markers, paper, and bottles of glue inspire him. His works range from 2 dimensional paintings and drawing to 3 dimensional pop bottle and repurposed materials and machine sculptures. His paintings and drawings tell an imaginative story, through patterns, colors, and animals like crocodiles and snakes. The images are closely reminiscent of the finished art of the Australian Aboriginal Indian Tribes with their references to maps and animals using dots and line to meticulously describe their environment.
His creative works, coupled with his active community involvement have increasingly gained the attention of artistic circles and show no signs of slowing down. The artist also interacts and observes the activity within the studio and, though silent, displays evidence of the importance of his participation and presence among the other artists and within the studio.
White has his own space in the V&V Northside studio that he created and that is supported by the V&V staff. Currently he has been engaged in found object sculpture and painting. He incorporates pop cans, cardboard, fabric and other materials into pieced together arrangement in 2 and 3 dimensional arts. His work maintains an entirely cohesive visual and is growing in volume and structure. His sculpture/mixed media has taken top priority over the past few months, as has his specifically organized arrangement of elements within each piece. His process toward color selection has changed toward earth tones as opposed to bright fluorescents.
Exhibition continues through June 27th.
