CINCINNATI, OH - Abstract Trances: Color, Vision, & Sensation is the first exhibit Visionaries and Voices is exhibiting that surveys abstract art at V&V and artists from the Cincinnati arts community. V&V artist, Michael Weber's paintings and technique are the inspiration for this exhibition. He has been with V&V for over 5 years creating a large collection of abstract art and has participated in many solo and group shows. He is co-curating Abstract Trances with V&V artists Stephanie Woods and Victor Dambowsky.

Abstract Trances examines the visual language of abstract art. We are defining abstract art as form, color and line to create a composition, which may exist with a degree of independence from the visual references in the real world (www.Wikipedia.com). Since V&V's conception the artists' have been creating abstract art through a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, and fiber arts. The works reflect personal interests, growth, and the difficulties each has gone through.

The curators will be selecting works that show strong, individual expression, which challenge our minds to think beyond what is representational. One of the first abstract painters, Wassily Kandinsky states, "Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for colors, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential." The works of art in the Abstract Trances show express freedom of expression and the importance of abstract art.
